Farfarout is a proposal in which science, sound art, music, dance, mediation and research are in dialogue; and which opens to the public and the artists a space for reflection and criticism, in which to analyze our role in the world around us.

How fast do we move when we are standing still? How do we perceive stillness and movement? How are movement and knowledge linked?

The Farout Artistic Research collective has given an artistic response to these concerns. With choreography by Emilia Benítez (NGC25 - Nantes), newly created music by Sergio Luque and Gordon Williamson, performed by Flex Ensemble and with the participation of the astrophysicist Francisco Colomer, Farfarout proposes an immersion in these questions that unite us all.

The astrophysicist Dr. Francisco Colomer raises the reflection that gives rise to this production, inspired by the expansive and constant movement of the Solar System and our knowledge, the fragility of the limits, the redefinition of certainties, the importance of observation in the knowledge...

From astrophysics and scientific reflection, a parallelism is created with the avant-garde in artistic creation. The reflection on spatiality, the duality movement/quietude, and the perception of movement in potentiality acquires its artistic translation from dance and choreography.

This interdisciplinary performance closes the participatory exhibition proposal that will take place at the Palacio del Condestable in Pamplona during the week of November 6 to 11. If at the Condestable the public participates in the scientific part, at the Museum they will be able to immerse themselves in the more artistic aspect of the project. 

The active participation of the audience is essential for the common and shared creation of this piece that takes us from the movement of the constellations to the subtle pulsation of blood circulation and movement.

FAROUT ARTISTIC RESEARCH
It is a group of researchers, performers and creators, formed by Dr. Beatriz Pomés, Dr. Sef Hermans and Dr. Igor Saenz. Formed in 2019, they devise and develop perfomative projects and multidisciplinary researchers. Their activity is based on the practice-based-research methodology, and their artistic actions act as a meeting point on which other areas of knowledge are articulated. Their upcoming engagements in 2022 include actions at the MusicaOcupa festival in Quito (Ecuador), the Encuentros de Pamplona 72, and the Farfarout tour in Wolfsburg and Hannover (Germany).

EMÍLIA BENÍTEZ
Ecuadorian dancer and choreographer, Benítez danced for eight years as principal of the National Dance Company of Ecuador and has represented her country in numerous festivals in South America, Asia and Europe. As a choreographer she has created works within the FDI, the National Dance Company of Ecuador, or the German School of Quito, among others. She is currently based in Nantes, working for the company NGC25 where she practices her profession as a performer and choreographer.

DR. FRANCISCO COLOMER
Francisco Colomer is an astronomer, director of JIVE, the Joint Institute of VLBI, a European Research Infrastructure based in the Netherlands. Colomer received his PhD in astrophysics from Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) and an MBA in "Management of Research Infrastructures" from the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy). He is a civil servant at the National Astronomical Observatory of Spain. During his career, he has participated in more than 100 scientific articles, numerous conferences and workshops, international projects and outreach activities. Colomer defends basic scientific research as a cultural asset in our society. The international perspective allows him to be also an "ambassador" of Spain in the world.

DR. SERGIO LUQUE
Dr. Sergio Luque is a composer and researcher of vocal, instrumental and electroacoustic music. His music has been performed by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, the Nieuw Ensemble and the Schönberg Ensemble, among others, and he has been a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte de México. She currently combines her work with teaching at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska, and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

FLEX ENSEMBLE
Flex Ensemble consists of Kana Sugimura (violin), Anna Szulc (viola), Martha Bijlsma (cello), and Johannes Nies (piano). Known for their refined and highly energetic performances, Flex Ensemble has been awarded the 2013 Schumann International Chamber Music Prize in Frankfurt, the 2015 Gianni Bergamo Classical Music Prize, the Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Prize in Lodz, or the Premio Trio di Trieste.

They have performed at Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Beijing Performing Arts Center and at festivals such as the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker and the Heidelberger Frühling. They are creators of the Chamber Music Fest Rheinhessen, and the imPULS concert series in Hannover.
