Presentation of the book "José Ortiz Echagüe, el empresario fotógrafo", the biography of the author of the Museum's first Legacy
On March 13, the book"José Ortiz Echagüe, el empresario fotógrafo" was presented at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Museo Universidad de Navarra and EADS CASA, the company that the artist founded and which is celebrating its 90th anniversary.
Its author, Carmen Erro, traces in this publication the personal and professional life of the multifaceted businessman, not only recognized as a legend in the aeronautical world but also for his skills and achievements in the field of photography. "It is difficult to define in a few words the career of José Ortiz-Echagüe. He was an effective manager, an entrepreneur, an example of commitment and passion for his work, a modest person, an exceptional man," he said.
The Rector, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, highlighted in his words the wealth of documents that the University of Navarra currently has and the collaboration and joint work agreement between the University and EADS that has made the preparation of this biography possible. He also wanted to highlight the symbolic value of the publication, as it is the first work co-published by Museo Universidad de Navarra.
For his part, Domingo Ureña Raso, chairman of EADS, focused on how that business venture, then called "a daring folly," was the beginning of one of the largest aeronautical companies in the world. Ureña stated: "I want to believe that José Ortiz-Echagüe would be quite satisfied with what has been achieved thanks to his daring folly. Nine decades of technical milestones that have generated important knowledge and that now allow us to design and manufacture in Spain part of some of the most advanced commercial aircraft in the world, to be a center of excellence in carbon fiber for EADS, or to have designed and have in our portfolio cutting-edge military aircraft for transport, tanker or surveillance missions".
