Soul Mates. Lynne Cohen

The photographer Lynne Cohen (1944-2014), born in Wisconsin (United States), developed in Canada most of her teaching and artistic activity. In the early 1970s she began taking photographs, focusing thereafter on interior spaces always marked by the absence of the human element. Offices, waiting rooms, lounges and silent, uninhabited corridors become the focus of a photographic gaze that resolutely seeks a vision of the world that is neutral, transparent and without artifice. This exhibition shows, for the first time, the work he did in 2009 for the Tender Puentes project at the Museo Universidad de Navarra. Taking as inspiration a selection of photographs from the 19th century collection in which she found that same inexpressive and anonymous vision of empty space that she pursued in her own work, the artist proposed a journey through the interiors of the University itself, Pamplona and Navarra. Throughout the eleven photographs, the absence of the human, added to the distance of a vision marked by symmetry, homogeneity and the inexistence of visual hierarchies, induce progressive estrangement and invite the viewer to enter photographs that seem to have appeared mysteriously.
