Title: Encuentros 72, Pamplona
Year: 1972
Length: 51'.
Director: José Antonio Sistiaga
The figure of José Antonio Sistiaga (San Sebastian, 1932) is closely linked to the 1972 Pamplona Encounters due to the presentation of his film ...ere erera baleibu izik subua aruaren..., a 1970 film produced by X Films, painted by hand, frame by frame, on 35 mm celluloid. The different artistic events that took place during those days in the Navarrese capital were also captured by Sistiaga's camera, who filmed the documentary Encounters 72, Pamplona, a silent film in 16 mm and black and white that bears witness to the main events and protagonists of this avant-garde festival.
50 years later, the Museum projects a restored copy of Encuentros 72, Pamplona, accompanied by the live commentary of Manuel Hidalgo, journalist and current director of El Cultural, then a young student and passionate witness of the cultural life of his hometown. Following the images recorded by Sistiaga that emerge on the screen, Hidalgo will share his memories of the '72 Encuentros.
Artist José Luis Alexanco, member of the ALEA group, organizer of the '72 Encounters with the patronage and encouragement of the Huarte family, encouraged the Museum's Artistic Direction to investigate and delve into the role that cinema played in that original and disruptive event. As a result of this exchange of concerns was born the screening of Encuentros 72, Pamplona, by José Antonio Sistiaga, in the context of a dialogue with journalist Manuel Hidalgo.

Manuel Hidalgo Ruiz (Pamplona, 1953) is a Spanish journalist and writer. He holds a degree in Journalism from the University of Navarra. In his professional career he has worked as a columnist in the magazines Cambio 16 and Fotogramas (where he was editor-in-chief) and in the newspapers Diario 16 and El Mundo (since 1989). In the latter he founded and directed the weekly supplement Cinelandia. Since January 2022 he has been director of the magazine El Cultural. He has published several books on cinema. He is also a screenwriter and author of the film "La mujer del prójimo", made in 1988 and with which he won the "Colón de Oro" at the Huelva Film Festival that year.
This screening is part of the Encuentros de Pamplona 72-22 calendar, a cultural event that has brought together many cultural institutions that contribute their own approach to the 50th anniversary of the original Encuentros de Pamplona of '72 promoted by the Huarte family and organized by the ALEA Group, of which Alexanco was a member.
