"Music for improvement": meeting of the musicians of the Orquesta Nacional Juvenil del Sodre of Uruguay with students from the University of Navarra.
The Museo Universidad de Navarra began its performing arts program with the pre-inaugural concert of the Orquesta Nacional Juvenil El Sodre. Formed by more than 80 young people between the ages of 16 and 27 from the most vulnerable neighborhoods of Montevideo, this group of musicians embodies values such as the desire to excel, youthful spirit, tenacity and teamwork, as well as the democratization of music and culture, values that it shares with the Museum.
On the morning of October 6, in the theater of the Museo Universidad de Navarra, the Orchestra was the protagonist of the meeting-colloquium "Music for overcoming" in which some of the members told their experiences to a group of people, including students from the University and the Conservatory of Pamplona. After performing "Conga del Fuego Nuevo", by the Mexican Arturo Márquez, the director and founder of the Orchestra, Ariel Britos, explained the origin of this initiative, which aims to bring music to the poorest neighborhoods. The Orquesta Nacional Juvenil del Sodre stands as the pinnacle of the Sistema de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Uruguay, a program of Acción Social por la Música that has been in full expansion in the Latin American country for 18 years. "We seek the integration of all musicians, we are like a big family and here it does not count to be "son of", but the effort, work, discipline and meritocracy," Britos stressed.
