Symphony Orchestra of Navarra - Nafarroako Orkestra Sinfonikoa

Yorrick Troman, violin

Jordi Francés, management

The conversation between Teresa Catalán and Tomás Marco about the experiences lived in the Pamplona Meetings of 1972 will give way to this concert offered by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra in which works by some of the musicians who took part in them will be heard.

This symphonic concert marks one of the high points of the Encuentros de Pamplona 72/22 as it evokes, as an echo or resonance, the aesthetic impact on Pamplona's life of the experience of avant-garde music that composers such as the Bilbao-born Luis de Pablo (1930-2021) or the Navarrese Teresa Catalán (1951) contributed to spread among the citizens 50 years ago during the first edition of the Encuentros.

Meticulously, maestro Jordi Francés and the OSN/NOS have designed a commemorative program that, gathering the spirit of audacity and experimentation of the second half of the 20th century, combines works by national composers as decisive in the evolution of the 'new Spanish music' as Luis de Pablo -Rostro-, Teresa Catalán -Glosa en tono re (Manuel Castillo in memoriam)- and Tomás Marco -Paseo con Sarasate- with some seminal pieces of the European avant-garde -Aurora, by Iannis Iannone-, Teresa Catalán -Glosaen tono de re (Manuel Castillo in memoriam)- and Tomás Marco -Paseocon Sarasate- with some seminal pieces of the European avant-garde -Aurora, by Iannis Xenakis (1922-2001); Melodien für Orchestre by György Ligeti (1923-2006)- and North American -4'33'' by John Cage (1912-1992)- all exquisitely served by the OSN/NOS under the baton of Jordi Francés and his concertmaster Yorrick Troman, who will emulate maestro Sarasate in Marco's tribute-work.

The concert is a co-production between the Baluarte Foundation and the Museo Universidad de Navarra on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Pamplona Meetings of '72, and will be preceded by a meeting with the artists Teresa Catalán and Tomás Marco.

Those attending the meeting and the concert have free access to José Luis Alexanco's exhibition, which opens at the MUN on September 19.

BIOGRAPHIES

SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA OF NAVARRA
Founded in 1879 by Pablo Sarasate, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra/Nafarroako Orkestra Sinfonikoa is the oldest active group in the Spanish symphonic panorama. At present, it is integrated in the Baluarte Fundazioa Foundation, an institution financed mainly by the Government of Navarra, and as such is the official orchestra of the Comunidad Foral. In its 140 years of existence, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra has been invited by the main auditoriums, opera seasons and festivals both in Spain and abroad. Particularly noteworthy is its recurring presence at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the concert tour organized by the Universal Music label and an Asian tour that took place in 2009. As a reference interpreter of Pablo Sarasate, his recording of the complete works of the famous Navarrese composer with violinist Tianwa Yang was unanimously praised by international critics. Likewise, the series of recordings with maestro Antoni Wit constitutes one of the phonographic milestones in his history.
