Sergi Aguilar i Sanchis (Barcelona, 1946) is a sculptor, goldsmith, draftsman and photographer. His first works were in bronze, brass and marble, with a post-minimalist style influenced by Russian constructivism and the work of sculptors such as Julio González, Jorge Oteiza, Eduardo Chillida and Constantin Brâncusi. In his work, nature and geometry are especially relevant, concepts from which he develops his idea of space, through which he establishes a dialogue between the object and its environment.
His work can be found in the best museums and galleries of contemporary art, such as the Guggenheim Museum, the MACBA, the MNCARS, the Kunsthalle Mannheim, the Fundación La Caixa and the Fundación Juan March. He was president of the AAVC (Associació d'Artistes Visuals de Catalunya) between 1996 and 2002, and of the UAAV (Unión de Asociaciones de Artistas Visuales) between 2004 and 2007. He is currently director of the Fundació Suñol in Barcelona.
