Present Company Antonio Ruz
The Antonio Ruz Company (National Dance Award 2018) embarks on a new challenge; a medium-format piece with 5 performers from 3 different generations that navigates between dance and scenographic installation and addresses, from an abstract theatricality, the concept of the present with a philosophical and sensory approach.

In an era of unstoppable anxiety about the future in which time seems to escape from our hands, this work addresses the concept of the present through the senses and explores the relationship of movement and matter with stimuli as ways of expression. But this sensorial and philosophical idea of the "instant" as a gift is also marked by doubt, which reveals here its inspiring potential as a strategy of mobilization and resistance, creating a bubble of possibility; a space and time for mobilization that overrides automatism and complicates the cause-effect relationship. This exercise in which dance, objects and music interact with each other, serves as the basis for creating a mutant piece in which five performers build their own stage space while choreographies and images of a poetry that travels between chaos and beauty, between the ephemeral and the eternal follow one another.
With more than 8 years of experience in the field of choreographic creation, collaboration with artists from different disciplines and the use of live music as a hallmark of identity, the Antonio Ruz Company faces this new work. |

Antonio Ruz

Choreographer and independent dancer, Antonio Ruz is currently, and has been for years, one of the most outstanding creators of dance in our country. His discourse, developed at the head of his own company or with interesting collaborations for reputable national and international groups, is based on an accentuated interest in the most open character of dance. An openness that is the result of both an extensive training and the development of his creative homilies, framed in contemporary dance, but also in Spanish dance and flamenco and in the encounter of both.
Antonio Ruz was born in Cordoba in 1976 and trained in flamenco, Spanish dance and classical ballet in his hometown. He began his professional career at the Victor Ullate Ballet and later at the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Ballet de l'Opéra de Lyon. In 2006 she returned to Spain to join the National Dance Company, under the direction of Nacho Duato. During his stay in foreign companies, Antonio Ruz started in the field of creation. Collaborations with other artists and other disciplines are a constant in the discourse of this choreographer. In this line, since 2007 and until today, he has been developing an interesting creative relationship with the company Sasha Waltz & Guests, based in Berlin, participating as a dancer, choreographer and assistant choreographer. Also since 2007, he starts an interesting collaboration as choreographer and guest dancer with the Spanish dance company Estévez-Paños & Company. "My challenge in every project is to enhance the human side of the performers, to undress their personality. Technique and virtuosity without an underlying discourse do not interest me," explains the creator. It was in 2009, as a result of a personal and artistic need, when Antonio Ruz created his own dance company in Madrid. Among the mentions and awards that outline his career are the recent National Dance Award 2018 in the Creation Category and the "Ojo Crítico" Dance Award 2013 RTVE. |
