Workshop The writing of short stories with Borges' tales

A participatory workshop, based on the reading and detailed explanation of Borges' texts. In addition, techniques and narrative resources for writing and composing short stories will be discussed in the context of each story.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

? Enjoy the literature, especially the narrative -and some poems-, of Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986).

? To understand the Borgian work and the figure of the author.

? To delve into the fundamentals of narrative writing resources.

? To encourage and develop personal qualities of composing stories.

? To revive the vigor for writing.

? To increase the ability to evaluate -even, in certain cases, the ability to judge literary pieces with arguments.

? Strengthen reading autonomy: read by everyone after the course.

MethodologyTeacher's exposition and active participation of the assistants. Reading in the session and reading preparation outside the classroom.

 

Program:

01 A strange tale in Borges. Narrative technique: the structure. What order and length to give to the story?

02 Borges' themes. Time and memory. Narrative technique: the transmission of meanings. What to write about?

03 Borges, famous and innovative storyteller. Narrative technique: the narrator's voice. Who is this narrator?

04 Tales of small objects. Narrative technique: the wisdom of detail, the expertise of detail. Narrative concision.

05 Borges, pioneer of the microfiction. Essential ways of writing microfictions.

06 Participatory wrap-up: But have I learned anything? How can I move forward?                                                                                                      

 

MaterialParticipants will be provided with annotated Borges stories, bibliography and complementary texts.

 

Duration: twelve hours (six 2-hour sessions)

Calendar: October 8, 15, 22, 29 and November 5 and 12

Schedule: Tuesdays from 2.15 to 4.15 pm.

General admission fee: 95€ / UN students: 25€.
