Carmen Cortes

Carmen Cortés is one of the most prestigious dancers in Spanish dance today. She is recognized nationally and internationally for the expressive force, in her hands, in her zapateados and in her figures. Her dancing is temperamental, fast and furious, it is the flamenco dance of the old school, with a feeling and a very personal vision.

She defines herself essentially as a "bailaora", but without renouncing in any way to other forms of creation within dance and theater, through a constant concern for renewal and the encounter between flamenco and other ways and ways of understanding dance. Carmen's art has managed to combine a duality that is difficult to achieve in today's world of flamenco. Her dance, being authentic and orthodox, coexists perfectly with the most innovative proposals, integrating seamlessly with elements far removed from the classic racial component, as well as with contemporary dance or jazz.

Her conception of dance is fiercely independent, always looking for creation. The flamenco canons lose their rigidity with Carmen, adapting to her creativity but without omitting an iota of its essence. Her dancing is elegant and sober, strong and fragile, delicately fierce, very personal, with total dedication.
