Oteiza. Opera in one act by Juan José Eslava.
With a monodrama format, this opera recreates the thought of the artist from Guipuzcoa. The initial energy of being (desire, existential fear, search...) is developed through the game, which leads to aesthetic experiences linked to several of Oteiza's most significant works.
General admission: 14 and 12€.
Oteiza interrogates the notion of individuality through a journey in which the identity of a being finds in emptiness its link with the primordial values (sky, earth, nature). The catalyst figure of this encounter is the Neolithic cromlech, a figure that Oteiza in his reflection identifies with the deconscience of emptiness. The opera explores new links between the corporal, acting, lighting, scenographic and sound dimensions in a work of writing in which there are no borders between these elements, but new crystallizations in their ways of interacting, which take shape around the materials on which Oteiza articulated his sculptural work: iron, stone and wood.
With a monodrama format, lasting approximately one hour, the play develops around an actor-singer, who interacts with the scenic elements to recreate Oteiza's thoughts. The actor-singer searches for himself, and this search for being contains a drama, a fundamental contradiction: he does not find himself. The initial energy of being (desire, existential fear, search...) is developed through the game, which leads to aesthetic experiences linked to several of Oteiza's most significant works, which are in turn linked to childhood memories and his experiential baggage.
The Oteiza opera aims to recover the artist's legacy and make it transcend the stage space of the theater.
