Santiago Olmo (photography expert) and Valentín Vallhonrat (curator of the exhibition together with Ignacio Miguéliz) share with the public the keys to the exhibition "Rafael Levenfeld. Photographer".
Rafael Levenfeld began his first photographic series in 1976. His photographs credited him as one of the young people who played a leading role in the renewal of photographic languages in Spain. Very soon he organized his work in series of performative character, which derived towards the intervention and experimentation with pictorial techniques in the photographs. In 1980, together with Joan Fontcuberta, Ignacio González and Adolfo Martínez, he founded the magazine PhotoViSion with the purpose of offering a space for the diffusion, with a critical view, of both Spanish and international photography. Throughout the following decades, and without ceasing to develop his photographic series, his commitment to photography led him to curate numerous exhibitions for institutions such as Fundación La Caixa, Museo Nacional de Arte de Catalunya, of which he was an advisor, Fundación Telefónica, Museo Nacional Reina Sofía, and Fondo Fotográfico Universidad de Navarra - Museo Universidad de Navarra, of which he was artistic director until his death in November 2023. This exhibition gathers his first series, with which he achieved artistic and public recognition, and his unpublished production of the last three decades.
