CONFLUENCES VI. Characters, heroes and influencers

9 NOV / 10.30 a.m.

Free admission with prior withdrawal of invitation

With Ana Choperena, Ruth Gutiérrez and Francisco Varo. Moderated by Raquel Cascales

Does the title of Jorge Ribalta's exhibition Todo es verdad (Everything is true) indicate that all the characters he portrays are also true? But among them we do not find "real" people, but "anti-portraits", anonymous or masked figures turned into icons (Laocoonte savage) or historical figures represented by their role in society (Charles V is shown through his armor). The exercise of blurring the boundary between fictional heroes and historical personalities invites a reflection on the construction of the public image and on the truth of those "avatars" with which the personality is masked in an environment like ours, marked by the continuous emergence of new characters such as influencers.

In this new edition of "Confluences", we will address this issue with professors Ruth Gutiérrez Delgado, professor of "Series Scripting" and "Epistemology of Communication", who researches on audiovisual poetics, myth and hero; Francisco Varo, expert in Sacred Scripture and professor of "Characters of the Bible" at the Faculty of Theology; and Ana Choperena, professor of "Narratives, care and existence" at the Faculty of Nursing.
