Museo Universidad De Navarra Collection
PERMANENT
Commissioners: Valentín Vallhonrat and Ignacio Miguéliz
Location: Floor 0
The painting and sculpture collection of Museo Universidad de Navarra mainly of pieces donated by Navarran collector María Josefa Huarte (1927–2015) to the University of Navarra in 2008. This donation led to the construction of a museum, which opened its doors to the public in January 2015, establishing a dialogue between María Josefa Huarte's contemporary art collection and the University's photography collection, as well as with new works from acquisitions, deposits, and donations added to the museum's collection after its inauguration.
The exhibition presented here is divided into four different spaces, dedicated to figurative art, the wall as a space for creation, informal abstraction, and geometric abstraction. This layout establishes a dialogue between artists and works, and is not closed or exclusive in nature, as many of the pieces are multifaceted and can be interpreted on several levels. This reflects the fact that the MUN collection is open and alive, and includes works of painting and sculpture, as well as photography, video art, drawing, and installations, in keeping with the collecting spirit of the Huarte family, María Josefa and her siblings, who were passionate about art in all its forms and manifestations, which led them to play an unprecedented role as patrons of the arts in Spain at that time.
