La zarzuela de los paraguas Project for stage production

Opera and zarzuela are the stage shows that involve more technical and production complexity. In this case it requires the coordination and synchronization of teams as diverse as a Symphony Orchestra, two Choirs, several soloists, a cast of actors, tailors, make-up artists and technicians, who work synchronized under the direction of the stage director and the musical director.

For the first time, Campus Creativo offers students the opportunity to participate in a large interdisciplinary project, which intertwines the skills and learning of three programs consolidated over the years: the orchestra, the choir and the theater training plan, also incorporating students of Performing Arts Production of the Faculty of Communication, and the Degree in Design of the ETSA.

In addition, continuing with the line of collaborations with professionals started some time ago, in this case the Asociación Gayarre Amigos de la Ópera (AGAO) joins the team, allowing students to learn directly from working together with professionals.

Weekly, from September until its premiere on April 5 and 6, the participants in the project are working under the supervision of professionals, to make progress in the creation of THE ZARZUELA OF THE UMBRELLASan adaptation by Liuba Cid of El año pasado por agua, a work by Federico Chueca and Joaquín Valverde.

For the first time the conductor of the orchestra, Borja Quintas, will work with the choir and the orchestra in the pit. For her part, Liuba Cid, in charge of the theater training plan, directs the stage, also doing a pedagogical work of acting direction with the students. 

All of them are joined by the talent of some students of Scenography of the ETSA in the degree of design, who have collaborated in the conception of the scenography.

The activities proposed by Campus Creativo to groups of students within this framework allow the development of essential skills in the working world. The project itself confronts its participants with the approach of a complex assembly from a managerial, technical and artistic perspective.

The project itself is a combination of talents, skills, professional experience, knowledge and pedagogy that allows us to propose a complex, comprehensive and interdisciplinary project to the students.

Liuba Cid

Adaptation of the play and stage direction

Born in Havana, Cuba. Graduated in Performing Arts from the Instituto Superior de Arte de la Habana, Cuba, specializing in Stage Direction and Acting, continuing her academic training in Postgraduate Studies in Performing Arts at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid, where she is pursuing her doctoral studies. He has directed more than 50 theatrical productions, dedicating much of his stage work to the contemporary reading of the Classics of the Golden Age. In 2005 he premiered the play "LA NOCHE DE LOS QUIJOTES" by Santiago Martín Bermúdez in the 28th Edition of the Almagro Classical Theater Festival.

He has published several titles on theatrical technique and specialized articles on theater.

Borja Quintas

Music Director

Professor of Orchestra Conducting at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón and at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska. Conductor of the Russkaya Opera Theater of Moscow. He graduated in Orchestra and Opera Conducting at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow with Professor Vladimir Ponkin. As a pianist he studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid with Professor Joaquín Soriano and at the Moscow Conservatory with Professor Viktor Merzhanov. He has made several recordings for prestigious record labels and has collaborated with the main media in Spain and Russia. He has performed in the most important halls in Spain, Russia, England, Austria, France, Belgium and Italy and in the Middle East and Asia in Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan. 

Since 2012 he has been a trustee of the Eutherpe Foundation. He teaches at the Conservatorio Amaniel in Madrid and at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska. He is Director of the Russkaya Opera Theater in Moscow.
