Workshop The Reality of Making Dance
A workshop in which participants will be able to understand the rationale for producing a contemporary dance performance and understand the design of a choreography.

JOV2XTM. *You must present your university ID card on the day of the workshop. Methodology: Session 1: 45 min. Ana Cabo will explain how and why to produce a dance show. To illustrate her presentation, she will talk about the keys to producing a show. Session 2: 60 min On the theater stage, alongside the dancers, Jean Philippe Dury will explain how choreography is designed and how decisions are made on stage.

JEAN PHILIPPE DURY Jean Philippe Dury began his dance studies at the age of six. He enters the dance school of the Paris Opera at the age of eleven and joins the company seven years later. During this period he also worked with renowned contemporary choreographers such as Lionel Hoche, Jean-Claude Gallotta, Laura Scozzi, Maurice Béjart, Pina Bausch, Mats Ek, William Forsythe and Jirí Kylián. In September 2007, invited by Nacho Duato, he joined the National Dance Company as a principal dancer. In 2009 Gradimir Pankov calls him as a guest artist at the Grands Ballets de Montréal. Back in Spain in 2010 he returns to the National Dance Company for the last season of its artistic director, Nacho Duato, and settles permanently in Madrid. In 2013, Jean Philippe creates his own company Elephant in The Black Box and wins the first prize at the Talent Madrid festival with Cel Black Day. In 2106, Dury starts a comprehensive project for dance and young people that runs parallel to his work with EBB and invitations from international companies (Basel Ballet, Leipzig Opera Ballet) as a choreographer. With more than fifteen choreographies he is also resident choreographer in Leipzig. EBB Dance Company tours in the United States, South Korea, Spain, France, Switzerland and participates in various festivals. Dury is a daring and innovative creator, demanding in the interpretation and technical registers whose choreographic trajectory is identified by his own language.

ANA CABO She has a degree in Philosophy (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 1992), Master in Cultural Management (ICCMU, Universidad Complutense de Madrid 1994) and graduated in Classical Dance (Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza). He has been a member of the State Council of Culture (executive group of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport). She has edited for the University of Navarra - Teatro Museo- the book Cuadernos de Creación: Javier Martín (2017). As a guest lecturer she has taught at the European University of Madrid, at the Master in Cultural Management of ICCMU, and at the University of Salamanca (RBA). From 2003 to 2015 she was Dance Advisor and Artistic Director of the International Festival Madrid en Danza (Consejería de Cultura del Gobierno de la Comunidad de Madrid) and creator and director of the project La Ventana de la Danza Madrileña.
She is currently the coordinator of EBB (Elephants in the Black Box Dance Association).
