Coda in Motion. Virgilio Sieni

Roger Salas, the dance and ballet critic of the newspaper El País, will moderate a meeting with Virgilio Sieni, choreographer and director of the dance section of La Biennale di Venezia.

During the meeting, fragments of Sieni's project, 1cThe Gospel according to St. Matthew 1d will be screened at the Venice Biennale.

ROGER SALAS

Born in Holguín (Cuba) in 1950, he has been the dance and ballet critic of the newspaper El País for 28 years. As a critic and chronicler, he has been an illustrated witness of the most important events of the specialty worldwide, awarded and recognized by the ballet profession in the most demanding performance forums, from the Venice Biennale to the Mariinski Theater in St. Petersburg or the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. His lectures have reached the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

In addition to lecturing in different parts of the world, he is the author of numerous books and articles on dance and ballet. 

 

VIRGILIO SIENI

Sieni trained in classical and contemporary dance in Amsterdam, New York and Tokyo, but his background also includes the study of visual arts, architecture and martial arts. For the creation of his works Sieni has often made use of the collaboration of famous visual artists, musicians and composers, such as Alexander B?l?nescu, Ennio Morricone, Steve Lacy, Francesco Giomi / Tiempo Royal, Evan Parker, Stephen Scodanibbio, Toderi, Liliana Moro, Maurizio Nannucci, Flavio Favelli.

Together with his company, Sieni supports the creation of a research program, the study, the dissemination of contemporary choreographic language articulated in residency projects, production and training. Since 2003 he directs, in Florence, Cango CantieriGoldonetta and since 2007 the Academy of Gesture, aimed at the transmission of artistic practices and the establishment of a new relationship between education and production, aimed at professionals and groups of newcomers dance, from infancy to old age for blind people.
