Museo Universidad de Navarra 's collection of paintings and sculptures is presented in an innovative way designed to invite contemplation.
The Museo Universidad de Navarra has redesigned the layout of the galleries in its permanent exhibition “
,”
which features works by Picasso, Tàpies, Rothko, and others. The curatorial project, led by architects and professors at the School of Architecture María José Zegers-Correa and Marta García Alonso, also included the collaboration of Ricardo Piñero, professor of Aesthetics.
This project seeks, above all, to focus on the viewer’s contemplation of art
. Thus, through walls and texts, a path is created that—by concealing and revealing the works—seeks to evoke a sense of wonder in those who visit the exhibition. For wonder is the gateway to the contemplative gaze: a gaze that, captured by the artwork, begins to engage in a dialogue with the ineffable. This is the attitude that the museum’s new layout seeks to foster, as only this attitude can prepare the viewer to cross the threshold that the artwork opens before them.
In this way, each space is conceived as a place that the viewer must inhabit through presence: their own, that of the artwork, and that of the contemplative relationship between the two. A dialogue is thus established between the artwork and the viewer that leads to what truly gives meaning to this project: contact with the transcendent.
