MARK TWAIN

Qualified as the father of American literature, Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known by the pseudonym Mark Twain, was a popular writer, orator and humorist, responsible for such universal works as The Prince and the Pauper, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In his beginnings, Twain wrote light and humorous verses, but he evolved towards his work as a chronicler of the vanities, hypocrisies and cruelties of mankind. Throughout his career, Mark Twain wrote novels, travel books, short stories, essays and other non-fiction as well as newspaper articles.

The Diary of Adam and Eve is a moving memorial to his wife, who died a year before he wrote it; a work with a simple, acid, direct and somewhat irreverent style, as well as a vital defense of the human being whose weaknesses and pretensions he ridicules. Throughout his life, Twain showed an interest that almost bordered on obsession for the great questions surrounding the creation of man and the world; The Diary of Adam and Eve is his own answer to these questions.
