SERENITY SUITE. MATXALEN BILBAO COMPANY

Matxalen Bilbao, one of the names that invariably sound when talking about contemporary Basque dance, presents in exhibition halls her choreographic piece Serenity Suite, a duet that plays with the "space-time" experience.

You will be able to follow it from 7.30 p.m. through the YouTube channel of the Museum

Place: Room 0 - Floor 0

Serenity Suite stands out for its great artistic maturity both in its choreographic writing and in its interpretation.

The choreographic piece

The theme of the "passage of time" runs through the whole piece, in a subtle way, without gravity, without nostalgia. A duet with which Matxalen continues to show her experience in the management of "space-time". With this work, she has opened new territories that she had not explored before: transformations of the face, insertion of texts.

An extremely moving duet with a very discreet expressiveness mixed with abstraction. A generous dance, inhabited and very sober at the same time; a dance that goes to the essential and that radiates without fuss.

MATXALEN BILBAO

Dancer, pedagogue and creator, she is one of the names that are invariably mentioned when talking about contemporary Basque dance. She has danced for the companies "Forros", "Con buen pie" and "Damián Muñoz". Since 1998 she creates on her own, outlining a personal vocabulary. Interested in deepening and developing her own thinking, she continues to insist rigorously and methodically on her concerns, tracing a coherent path. In 2004, she was a finalist in the International Contemporary Dance Contest Masdanza (Gran Canaria) in the solo category.

Her creations have been presented in prestigious National and International Festivals such as Regards Croisés (Biarritz), BAD (Bilbao), Festival de Artes Performativas Y#10 Covilha (Portugal), Dantzaldia (Bilbao), Cuerpo y Ciudad (Buenos Aires), Festival 3D (Madrid)... Open to collaboration with other creators she collaborates with the Traversée Company of Biarritz. Resident choreographer in the project Atalak 2.0 of Dantza Konpainia in February 2018.

Teaching is an important part of her career. For more than 20 years she has been training dancers in the Basque Country and is invited to teach at dance festivals and schools where she gives workshops.
