Concert. Bella mía. Music around Isabel Baquedano

In this concert, by Raquel Andueza & La Galanía, compositions by pioneering women in their field are performed, happily brought together to honor the memory of the great Navarrese painter Isabel Baquedano. The program is composed by the Italian Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677) and Francesca Caccini (1587-1640), and by the Navarrese Teresa Catalán.

Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677) and Francesca Caccini (1587-1640) marked a before and after in the History of the Arts: two female singers and composers, very different from each other but equal in essence, who with their talent claimed the right to occupy the same space enjoyed by their male colleagues in the Italy of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Teresa Catalán, National Music Prize in the category of Composition in 2017, is also the first woman in the History of Spain to obtain a Chair of Composition. Divulgative, teacher, advisor, humanist and organizer of events around contemporary music, the works presented in this concert are of a marked dramatic air, where poetry and melody go hand in hand in an exquisite and subtle recitative, creating a dialogue of perfect union with the piano.

Isabel Baquedano's painting is related to compositions of these three women for very specific reasons: in the Navarre painter's paintings there is a great feminine component, as well as portraits in solitude. Her work is also inhabited by religious images, with soft, tender, almost mannerist colors. Of the baroque composers, songs are presented that speak of melancholy, love, loneliness, mysticism. Teresa Catalán provides the historical context, that space of the last century in which both shared a period. The timelessness and universality of Baquedano's painting is recognized in the magnificent compositions of the three musicians, making it possible for them to be intertwined from any perspective.
any perspective are intertwined, despite the centuries that separate them.
