After more than a decade exploring the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Mal Pelo presents Highlands, the last piece of the tetralogy inspired by the composer's music. A dance performance in dialogue with other disciplines by an exceptional cast. 16 performers: 8 dancers, 4 singers and 4 string musicians.
Highlands is a hatching of the work gestated and matured in the previous shows(Bach; On Goldberg Variations / Variations and Inventions) where they have analyzed and deepened in the listening and visualization of the structures, harmonies, voices and development of the music of J.S. Bach. A study that, over many years, has generated many questions about the dialogue between dance and baroque music of counterpoint.
Sacred, solemn, vitalist, sometimes mundane and with a touch of surrealism, Highlands is a spiritual refuge built with dance and Bach's music in dialogue with other composers such as Henry Purcell, György Kurtag, Ärvo Part, Benjamin Britten and Friedrich Händel. The word bursts in between dance and music with texts by John Berger, Erri de Luca and Nick Cave.
A sonorous and visual journey where the spectator feels the strength of the different disciplines; a work about the search for spirituality, about the mundane, about unanswered questions, about the temporal paradox of the human in front of the deep time of history. A concert of space, bodies and music.
