HOW TO DO THINGS WITH... Documents
"To produce a perfect pearl the oyster needs some piece of matter, a grain of sand or a small splinter around which it can form itself. Without this solid nucleus, it can become a formless mass" (E. H. Gombrich).
Following the great historian of the 20th century, who compared the artist to an oyster, in the cycle "How to make things with..." we open to the public the process of composition of the "pearl", asking ourselves each time about the element or material that has served as a splinter.
In continuity with the line opened last year, focused on the search for heritage elements that survive in the heart of contemporary creation, in this new season we find, at the core of the artistic processes explored, other materials, such as Latin sources, documents and mathematics.

With Joaquim Llansó and Jorge Ribalta

Two MUN exhibitions during the season focus on photography as a document.
Txema Salvans' exhibition documents and makes visible the everyday in order to question it. Jorge Ribalta's photographic work questions the limits between fiction and reality. Often, when working on these limits, one tends to affirm that everything is fiction. Ribalta seems to defend the opposite: everything is real, therefore his photographs, representations constructed emulating documentary photography, become "documents" themselves. The idea of document, vestige, remnant or trace is the notion he questions in many of his series and representations.
In this meeting, we will discuss this aspect of his work in an open dialogue between Jorge Ribalta himself and Joaquín Llansó, Director of the Archives and Documentary Heritage Service of the Government of Navarra, and therefore, an expert in the difficult task of selecting, preserving and ordering "documents".
