Only stop in Spain for the Orquesta Juvenil Nacional del SODRE. The orchestra will share working sessions with the Orquesta Sinfónica Universidad de Navarra, where both orchestras will be able to exchange experiences and reflections on music and university education.
Throughout the three days both groups will work on a repertoire and rehearse the pieces for the concert they will offer on August 30 at the Museum, a welcome concert for the new students and their families, prior to the European tour that the Uruguayan group will undertake, which is also open to all audiences.
SODRE NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA
The Sodre Youth Orchestra was formed in 2011 as a result of the alliance between the Sodre and the Fundación Sistema de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Uruguay, and has become one of the main emblems of the new management. Made up of more than 100 young musicians from different parts of the country and under the direction of renowned maestro Ariel Britos, it is a flexible structure that takes on alternative repertoires, such as tango, candombe, salsa and even rock.
Today it has its headquarters in front of the National Auditorium of the Sodre Dr. Adela Reta, where it performs its Main Concert Season. With more than 50 concerts a year, the Youth Orchestra has succeeded in seducing the public, winning twice the National Award for Citizen Excellence granted by the Latin American Development Center.
Since its beginnings, the Sodre Youth Orchestra has been committed to becoming a reference in the academic field, providing young Uruguayan musicians with a high level of musical training. It is a young and dynamic ensemble, committed to society through culture. Inclusion is one of its main challenges and it works with the permanent objective that the Youth Orchestra has a national character.
UNIVERSITY OF NAVARRA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra is formed by students of university age. Each year it offers students from the University and other centers the possibility of training and belonging to a quality symphonic ensemble. Conducted by Borja Quintas, its activity is developed throughout the course by top professionals of the music scene and culminates with public performances.
Inspired by the orchestras of the most prestigious universities in the United States and Central Europe, it aims to revalue the role of the arts and music in the university environment and to become a young orchestra of reference. On the horizon it also wants to promote links and exchanges with other national and international university institutions through music.
