Josetxo Goia-Aribe

Saxophonist. Santesteban (Navarra)

After attending in his adolescence a vast experience in folk music and popular expressions in his native community, he began his studies of music theory, harmony, piano and saxophone in Pamplona and San Sebastian, obtaining the superior title and end of career prize as a saxophonist. After several experiences in and out of jazz, he obtained a scholarship to study in Paris at C.I.M. (Centre d'informatios musicals). The Parisian years helped him to appreciate from another point of view the music of his native land, music that has always had a referential framework in the course of his career. Already in his first album "Auñamendi" the French musician Michel Portal enthusiastically endorsed the beginning of an unstoppable career.

Josetxo Goia-Aribe is undoubtedly one of the indisputable references in Spain in the so-called European Jazz, always arousing excellent reviews.

He has played and recorded with many of the best musicians on the Spanish and French scene: Chano Dominguez, Guillermo MCgil, Javier Colina, Baldo Martinez, etc. His ability to transgress tradition and create contemporary universes is his main hallmark as a musician.

He combines his creative activity and active musician with teaching music at the Escuela Superior del País Vasco "Musikene" since 2002.
