PASTORAL
Pastoral by L.V. Beethoven is a very special piece for Víctor Ullate, created as a tribute to his dear friend Ángela del Moral, whose partner he was in the Compañía de Antonio.
In the words of Víctor Ullate, Pastoral by L.V. Beethoven is "composed of three very differentacts: the first reflects childhood and the awakening to life, the second is the years of youth and the experience of love, the third represents the wisdom of age and the passage of time, through the storm the magic of the Dance brings the old people back to life in the afterlife. After the storm comes calm and rebirth". About the music, "Beethoven has always inspired me, I like his strength, his energy, his sensitivity; with Pastoral, which symbolizes nature, I wanted to pay tribute to Angela del Moral, partner in the ballet of Antonio and soul friend through whom I discovered love".
Víctor Ullate has been the most internationally renowned Spanish dancer of all time. A tireless worker and creator, he has dedicated his entire career to performance, creation and training. He began training dancers in 1983 and in 1988 launched the first private dance company in Spain. In 2000 he created the Víctor Ullate Dance Foundation to promote classical ballet in all its facets and to train dancers with limited economic resources.
In 1989 Víctor Ullate received the National Dance Award and in 1996 the Gold Medal of Fine Arts. In 2003 he received the Culture Award of the Community of Madrid in the category of Dance, the Author-Author Award in 2007, the MAX Award of Honor in 2008 and the MAX Award 2011 for Wonderland, as best dance show. In 2013 he was awarded the Gran Cruz de la Orden del 2 de Mayo de la Comunidad de Madrid and was named Honorary Member of the Claustro Universitario de las Artes and Honorary Professor of the University of Alcalá. In 2014 he was appointed Honorary Member of the Academy of Performing Arts. In 2016 Víctor Ullate was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in the Workplace.
MOTHER LAND
A staging that seeks to evoke nature through scenery, costumes and music, offering a pure, transparent and authentic atmosphere. In Tierra Madre the dreams and hopes of the human being are directed to nature, turned into songs and dance. Like seeds waiting under the snow for their awakening, our heart is directed to Mother Earth.
In the words of its creator, Eduardo Lao, "the ballet (...) shows an imaginary tribe of men and women who fulfill their function of survival under the protection of the Mother Earth. The starting point was the music of Mari Boine Persen, a Lappish singer of a transparency, purity and authenticity that motivated the starting point of the whole creation. I think the final result was quite faithful to the idea I had, where a set of simple ideas made the richness of the ballet possible."
Eduardo Lao, artistic director of the Víctor Ullate Ballet, became the company's principal dancer when it was founded in 1988 and in 1991 he began his career as a choreographer. His first work Underground was followed by Tierra Madre, Concierto para tres, Tsunami, Burka, Gogh, Llanto de luna, Go Up, Tres (the latter nominated at the Benois 2009). In 2006, he made his own version of Coppélia with a modern and innovative work of the great classic, which was a great success with critics and audiences.
With 2 you Maestro he pays tribute to his teacher Ullate, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the company, a choreography that earned him the Miradas 2 Award as the best dance show. In El Arte de la Danza, he choreographs with Víctor Ullate a journey through different choreographic styles. In 2012 he received the El Público Award for the Performing Arts. His latest premiere was in 2012 at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid with the piece Y, un paso a dos that symbolizes the intrinsic relationship between destiny and humanity.

VÍCTOR ULLATE BALLET
Víctor Ullate founded in 1988 the company that bears his name and of which he is the director, with Eduardo Lao as artistic director since 2001. Throughout these 28 years, rigor and exigency have sustained the selection and training of dancers, the choice and creation of choreographies, creativity and the level of the shows. Since its creation, it has become the first private Spanish company of international level and an emblem of dance in Spain.
It is the only Spanish company associated with a school, so it has been a quarry of dancers and has among its ranks dancers of the highest level. In these almost three decades, great dancers have left the company and occupy a relevant place within the world dance.
Among its guest stars have been Marie Claude Pietragalla, Carole Arbó, Joan Boada and the flamenco dancer Antonio Márquez. Francisco Nieva or Vicente Molina Foix have written ballet librettos for Víctor Ullate's creations and avant-garde Spanish composers such as Luis Delgado, actors such as Francisco Valladares and singers such as Enrique Morente, Estrella Morente and Carmen Linares have worked for the company.
Some of the company's shows have become references for the rest of the Spanish companies. This has been the case with classics such as Giselle or Don Quixote, updated by Víctor Ullate, which dazzled critics around the world and remain to this day the only Spanish references in classical ballet.
The Ballet has performed emblematic pieces from the international repertoire of choreographers such as George Balanchine, Maurice Béjart, Hans Van Manen, Jan Linkens, Nils Christie, William Forsythe and Micha Van Hoecke.
As a choreographer, Víctor Ullate has reached a level as high as that of his facets as a dancer and teacher. His company is the repository of dance masterpieces such as Jaleos, Arrayán Daraxa, De Triana a Sevilla, El amor brujo, Seguiriya, Volar hacia la luz, Arraigo, Après toi, Pastoral, El Sur, Samsara, Wonderland and Bolero. Eduardo Lao has also performed master choreographies such as Coppélia, Go up, Llanto de luna, Tierra Madre, Burka, Tres and Y. Both artists have jointly performed 2 You Maestro and El Arte de la Danza.
The company represented Spain at the closing of the Universal Exposition in Seville in 1992. Its show Divinos was broadcast by RTVE and RAI and seen by 100 million viewers. The Ballet has toured the world and has won numerous awards such as the Max Award for Best Dance Show awarded in 2011 to the work Wonderland.
