The MUN celebrates the closing of the VI Promotion of the Master's Degree in Curatorial Studies

The Museo Universidad de Navarra held today the closing ceremony of the VI promotion of the Master in Curatorial Studies, in the Aula Magna of the Central Building of the University of Navarra. The 16 students were attended by art critic and independent curator Bea Espejo, who gave the master class.

Under the title "The rumor of the exhibition", Espejo explained the development of the project Corrección, by artist Ignasi Aballí, which he curated for the Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale in 2022, which has served him to talk about the error as a source of possibilities, as well as the ups and downs of the curatorial exercise. On the role of the curator, Espejo explained to the recent graduates that depending on how a story is told, "the need for the gaze to go beyond the obvious" arises.

For his part, the director of the MUN, Jaime García del Barrio, invited them to develop their careers with generosity, constructive criticism, and to be an example of understanding, innovation, creativity and teamwork. He pointed out the need for art and beauty in our society, its transforming power.

Lourdes Flamarique , deputy director of the master's program, also dedicated a few words to them. The professor pointed out that these students belong to the University of Navarra, to the university community, to the link with the professors and with all those who have contributed to the course.

On behalf of the students, the course delegate, Florencia Baliña, took the floor and made a "cartography" of those spaces and elements that have built their journey during these months: from the exhibition halls and workshops of the MUN, which she spoke of as a "second home", passing through different places in the city, and including visits to cultural and art centers in other localities. The recent graduates have studied throughout the course in Pamplona, and have completed their training with trips to Vitoria, San Sebastian, Bilbao, Santander, Madrid and Barcelona. Next week, in addition, the Master will take them to London, where they will meet with the heads of the most important art spaces and institutions in the British art scene, such as Gasworks, Tate Modern or Barbican Centre.

Later, during the summer, they will carry out professional internships in art centers and museums, such as the Fundació Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona), Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary - TBA21, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Círculo de Bellas Artes and the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo de Móstoles, CA2M (Madrid); the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, MUSAC (León); the Museo Oteiza, the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Huarte and the MUN itself (Navarra); Artium Museoa - Museo de Arte Contemporáneo del País Vasco (Álava); and also in international institutions: Isabel and Agustín Coppel Collection (CIAC, in Mexico), or ArPa (São Paulo, Brazil).

In September, the last challenge for these curators will come: the presentation of their Master's Thesis , consisting of an exhibition proposal made in groups. From the projects presented, one will be selected to be exhibited in the Museum's Torre hall next season, with the support of the Palazuelo Foundation, which also collaborates in the curatorial journey.

Next month, in fact, the MUN will inaugurate the exhibition selected from last year's TFM: Constelaciones posibles, an exhibition proposal signed by four students of the V promotion.

The Museo Universidad de Navarra is the first to offer a master's degree in curatorial studies. It is an innovative program, with a high practical dimension(learning-by-doing) and a real link to the professional world. During the course, students have the opportunity to hold meetings and receive sessions from renowned artists and professionals in the sector, such as visual artist Daniel Canogar, curator Gerardo Mosquera, art historian Ana María Guasch, or the director of the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo de Móstoles (CA2M), Tania Pardo.
