Composers who signed works that were actually their wives' creations. Women painters who had to hide behind a male pseudonym to make their canvases stand out. There are many examples throughout history that reveal that women have not had it as easy as men to achieve their place in the exhibition halls and stages.
Therefore, this Saturday 8th, on the occasion of International Women's Day, the MUN invites you to reflect on the role of female artists with two free activities. At 12 noon there will be a guided tour focused on the women who sign the works in its Collection. Peruvian artistCecilia Paredes, British photographer Jane Clifford, American Lynne Cohen and Spaniard María Bleda are some of the protagonists. The visit is free and does not require registration. We will talk about the role of women in the history of art, who have often been made invisible; how they have been models compared to men," says Clara Sallán, from the Museum's Educational Department. -But also of women artists: many deal with the theme of women, femininity, others with any other theme," she says. Some have also adopted another important role: that of patron. "This Museum is the best example, with María Josefa Huarte", she adds, since the origin of the MUN is in the donation that this collector from Navarre made of 47 great works of contemporary art.
Later, at 1 p.m., there will be a visual thinking before La hilandera, by Cecilia Paredes, free of charge with prior registration. This activity "will serve to reflect on the role of women, not only in the history of art, but also in today's society," explains Sallán. In a visual thinking, conclusions are drawn with hardly any context, and this will allow us to play a lot with the conceptions we have about women, what role they play, how we perceive them, what we expect from them...".
The music program also brings in the next few days to the MUN an outstanding woman of the current scene: the orchestra conductor Beatriz Fernández Aucejo (Paiporta, Valencia) will conduct the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra (OSN) next Friday 14th in Elegies of musica program made up of pieces by Villa-Lobos, Piazzola and the American composer Gabriela Frank. Fernández Aucejo is the only Spanish winner of the important contest for female conductors La maestra, an international competition that aims to increase the visibility of women at the baton.
