Fusion of flamenco and classical music
The cantaora Rocío Márquez and the pianist Rosa Torres-Pardo will offer the concert "Suite Española" at the Museum's theater.
Rocío Márquez will perform next May 8th at 8:00 pm at the Teatro del Museo Universidad de Navarra with "Suite Española", a concert that fuses flamenco singing with classical music. Accompanied by pianist Rosa Torres-Pardo, the singer will reinterpret on stage the musical compositions of Enrique Granados, Isaac Albéniz and Manuel de Falla.
"Suite Española" is a meeting point between the avant-garde, live music and popular songs with tradition, written music and classical piano. This exchange seeks the roots of flamenco singing, giving more freedom of expression to pieces by Albéniz, Falla and Granados. After receiving standing ovations in Spain and in places as different as Tokyo and São Paulo, the two artists will perform at the Museum offering a different and new experience.
The Suite Española program is divided into three blocks. In the first, called "Goyescas", Enrique Granados' tonadillas such as "La maja y el ruiseñor", "La maja de Goya" and "El majo tímido" are performed. The second, "Lorquiana", mixes pieces by Albéniz and very recognizable themes such as "El Vito-Zorongo", "Tres hojitas" or "La tarara". The third, "El amor brujo", corresponds to pieces by Manuel de Falla such as "Canción del amor dolido", "Danza del terror" and "Canción del fuego fatuo", where flamenco and classical music enter into communion.
Trajectory of the two artistsRocío Márquez (Huelva, 1985) has become the new phenomenon of flamenco singing. With a favorable reception in the most important festivals and theaters such as the Zarzuela, the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Olympia in Paris, the artist has been baptized as the ambassador of flamenco singing not only in Europe but worldwide. Her new work, "El Niño", is a tribute to the free cante of Pepe Marchena. Her album breaks the barrier between classicism and avant-garde and has been applauded by audiences and critics alike.
He will be accompanied on stage by one of the most famous and internationally awarded Spanish pianists, Rosa Torres-Pardo (Madrid, 1960). She has worked with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, with conductors such as Dutoit or Fournet, and in world-renowned halls such as Carnegie Hall or the St. Petersburg Philharmonie. She is also known for her collaborations with María Bayo, Plácido Domingo and for her show Iberia with dancer Lola Greco. "The exchange with Rocío is very fluid, because she is such an artist and so moldable that she inspires me a lot. We are both learning with the recital. In any case, I do notice that difficulty of having to forget the bars of the compass and the written lyrics, but that is also where I enjoy the most because unexpected situations arise," says the pianist.
