The Horizon 2015 project includes the creation of a new Business Incubator, with the aim of promoting all business initiatives that may arise from the research centers within the framework of Horizon 2015.
The aim is for the valorization and transfer of results to be as dynamic and efficient as possible during the development of their projects and to lead to the creation of new companies, the improvement of the competitiveness of existing ones or the possibility of licensing new products to industry.
In this way, it will contribute to generate more employment and economic dynamism, mainly in the Autonomous Community of Navarra. The University of Navarra is part of the Moderna Plan, a commitment to a new productive model promoted by the main political, economic and social agents of Navarra.
The project promotes not only a technological but also a cultural transfer. The Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of Navarra will make its art collection available to Navarre and international society, which includes the Huarte Collection (with works by Rothko, Picasso and Tapiès, among others) and the Photographic Collection (with more than 8,000 photographs, including the best collection of the 19th century on Spain). The building, whose construction will begin at the end of 2011, is a project by the architect Rafael Moneo, and will be used for both teaching and research.
Research and teaching talent united
The commitment to talent covers two areas: teaching and research. The aim is to improve the quality of teaching through a greater commitment to research. Horizon 2015 will improve the internationalization of the faculty. It is planned to move to full bilingualism in more than 60% of the undergraduate and graduate programs. This will help to further increase the rate of international students (currently the highest among Spanish universities) from the current 14% to 25% by 2015.
Specific measures have been taken to improve teaching quality: accreditation processes and internal quality assurance systems (certified by ANECA) that will ensure exhaustive monitoring of teaching dedication (new Faculty Regulations); monitoring of study plans recently adapted to the EHEA (preparation of Teaching Guides for each subject); training of new doctors (University Teaching School); etc.
The Project seeks to strengthen the training of talent in the classrooms of the University of Navarra. The aim is to train students with a view to their subsequent professional careers. Specifically, two tools are promoted: one is personal counseling, a type of mentoring available to each student, which has been applied since the beginning of the University. And secondly, the Entrepreneurs Club, an initiative promoted jointly by the Fundación Empresa Universidad de Navarra, the Chamber of Commerce of Navarra and the CEN (Confederación de Empresarios de Navarra), which provides training to students in the area of business creation and the development of business plans.
Finally, the University is also working on a sustainable campus model, whose objectives are: environmental management, the incorporation of strategic and technical solutions that have an impact on the pollution of its surroundings; energy saving and efficiency; the management of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and the promotion of alternative transport such as the bicycle lane. In short, the aim is for the University campus to continue to be a large park, with better facilities so that citizens can enjoy a unique ecological environment.
