The Museo Universidad de Navarrahas already inaugurated a year of celebration with a commemorative event that paid tribute to the people who made it possible and to the professionals who work at the MUN. In addition, visits to the exhibitions will be free throughout the year, thanks to the MUN's collaboration with the Pamplona City Council, to facilitate everyone's knowledge and enjoyment of its Collection. "We are pleased that in this special year, we have renewed the collaboration agreement with the Pamplona City Council, which makes it easier for citizens to visit our exhibitions free of charge. As this is the anniversary year, it will be a gift for all visitors throughout 2025. What better way to celebrate it than by opening the doors to enjoy the heritage and the experience of contact with art and artists," says Jaime García del Barrio, general director of the MUN.
In this first event, held on January 23, the MUN wanted to thank all those people who have made this milestone possible since its origins, as well as to celebrate the anniversary in the company of people and groups that participate in its activity or are linked to it.
Hosted by journalist Amaia Madinabeitia (Navarra TV), it included the intervention of the general director of the MUN, Jaime García del Barrio; the president of its Patronato Promotor, Ángel Gómez Montoro; and the rector of the University of Navarra, María Iraburu. In addition, tribute was paid to the protagonists of this first decade: the families of the founding bequests, Ortiz Echagüe and Huarte; the architect Rafael Moneo; or the members of the founding artistic direction, among others.
The meeting was attended by other cultural and artistic entities of the city, professors from University faculties and centers that teach in collaboration with the Museum, students who participate in the artistic training it provides(Master's Degree in Curatorial Studies, Symphony Orchestra, Choir, Theater Training Plan, program in Performing Arts Production, Artistic Talent), schools that participate in the school programs, associations of the Autonomous Community that participate in the SociARTE Program (which channels the MUN's social innovation), etc.
At the event, the history of the project was recalled, as well as the most outstanding achievements of the first ten years of the MUN: the 60 exhibitions, the plastic and performing artists who have carried out artistic residencies, the 130 publications, the dialogue between art and science, the artists and researchers of the University for mutual enrichment, the seventh edition of its Master in Curatorial Studies, the promotion of social innovation through SociARTE, the formation of an international Patronage Promoter, a university symphony orchestra, among others.
Under the message "This is not a Museum", the MUN is launching a campaign to encourage everyone to visit the MUN and to participate in its artistic program and events planned for the coming months: the flamenco dance show Legacy (by Tania Martín and Carlos Romero & Nexus Company) on Sunday, January 26; or later at the ARCOmadrid fair, with an exhibition in the Sala Consejo and a presentation of the exhibition catalog "Colección MUN. Four decades" in March; or the inauguration in March at the MUN of the 60th exhibition, Eadweard Muybridge, are the most relevant proposals. But there will be others such as the newescape room in its exhibition rooms, the celebration of the 1 millionth visitor, or the incorporation of a new association to the SociARTE program and its first workshop of the year with the Luciérnaga Association, Association for Asperger's Syndrome and Autism Spectrum of Navarra (this Saturday, January 25). Also, the presentation of the ÓPEN program at the Teatro Real in Madrid and the second production of young opera in April at the MUN Theater; or the performance of Aterballetto, Italy's national choreographic center and the best contemporary dance company in the country, and many other opportunities to enjoy and celebrate the anniversary at the MUN.
