Search and inquiry are the connecting themes. Bending the Walls y Beyond, the works to be presented by Lava Compañía de Danza this Friday 22nd, at 7:30 p.m., at the Teatro del Museo Universidad de Navarra, as part of the series Museo en Danza. Tickets are 16 and 12 euros. Daniel Abreu, artistic director of the Canarian company and National Dance Award 2014, explains that both proposals arise from the invitation they make to the creators of the pieces to "inquire into their interests. The condition is that artistic freedom, there are no directions. It is important that open path committed to the way of seeing the world that each one of us has".

The result is two different pieces, but connected by the path of search in which they find themselves. Bending de Wallsby Fernando Hernando Madagán, current director of the company Netherlands Dans Theater II, explores the walls that keep us away from happiness or freedom. "It uses a demanding, fast and wide body language. We will see bodies that move with great precision, with a very visual and impressive display of technical body resources, embedded in a clear dramaturgy, closely linked to a symbolic narrative of the languages of dance by the European center," explains Abreu.

In this sense, he points out that "the public will be able to appreciate a beautiful and moving work. It is a line that few companies do in Spain. The piece also bridges intimate and, at the same time, universal questions: "We have advanced a lot in the use of matter and technology, but we still find the same difficulties and joys to live. The relationship with ourselves and our body moves in the outer layers of society according to fashions, but looking honestly inward we are not so different from one another."

A NOD TO SCIENCE FICTION

For its part, Beyondby Virgina García and Damián Muñoz(La intrusa), explores memory and the construction of ourselves, and does so by incorporating a certain degree of humor: "It is not humor understood as laughter, but as changes in rhythms and qualities. It is a plot with depth, sustained by the novelty of introducing science fiction in the world of dance, almost as if we were watching a movie. It is a work that makes the spectator travel at the same time that the performers themselves seem to wake up from a long journey".

Lava is a public company resident in the Auditorio de Tenerife, which was born in 2018 as a commitment to the creation of a new repertoire with creators of international presence. In this first year, they have taken their works to different spaces, inside and outside our borders. As its artistic director explains, they already have "several programs in repertoire and combining it with the tour is something very stimulating because it oxygenates the intensity of the hours of study and we give life to what we work so hard for. We are all very excited with each of the creators who come to tell us about their universe and seeing how the works and the company are being received". He also stresses that his proposal is "to work on contemporary dance languages with choreographers from different countries, whether they are acclaimed or not, but who have a committed artistic mission". In their choice, their vision is open and they look for "choreographers who have a concrete language and a connection with the public, regardless of whether it is more traditional or innovative".

In this line, he emphasizes that this is one of the riches of the Lava project, "to see that plurality leads us to the same place, that there are many ways and paths to build and express. What we have in common is that in the end it is built and told. How it is done is incomprehensible. In Tenerife there is dance and interest in sustaining it as part of the culture, which reaffirms what we are and also allows many creators from here and there to tell the world through it".

OTHER PROPOSALS

In addition to these two proposals, Daniel Abreu will hold a meeting with the public in classroom 2 of the Museum on Friday 22, at 12 noon, where he will share his artistic career and his work at the helm of Lava. Tickets are free with prior withdrawal of an invitation until full capacity is reached.

For her part, actress, dancer and creator Paula Quintana will present on Saturday the show The Joys at the Teatro del Museo. It will be at 7:30 pm and tickets cost 16 and 12 euros. It is a dance piece about joy as a generative, transformative and revolutionary power.
