"For the Compañía Nacional de Danza de España, to be chosen to inaugurate the Teatro del Museo Universidad de Navarra shows the commitment that this institution has with the Dance, and the choreographic creation as a reference of integration of the past, present and future of the Art". This was stated today by José Carlos Martínez, artistic director of the Company, at the presentation of the unique repertoire of five works that will inaugurate tomorrow the program of Museo Universidad de Navarra before more than 700 guests.

As he pointed out, "it is a pleasure to inaugurate this new theater space because we believe that the performing arts should be part of the training and cultural life of all students". He also stressed that "in the National Dance Company we are making great efforts to bring dance to the new generations, as we know that they are the audience of today and tomorrow, and that will ensure our survival. Dance stimulates, excites, moves, moves, unsettles, questions, denounces? And all of these are necessary actions for today's young people." "We hope that this visit will be the first of many and that we will be able to create and retain your audience with quality, rigor and excellence," concluded the director.

The Compañía Nacional de Danza, which has just finished its tour of China and Japan, was founded in 1979 under the name of Ballet Nacional de España Clásico and its first director was Víctor Ullate. In February 1983 María de Ávila took over the direction of the Spanish and Classical National Ballets, and in June 1990 Nacho Duato was appointed artistic director. In August 2010 Hervé Palito succeeded Duato for a year, and more recently, in December 2010, the Ministry of Culture announced the appointment of José Carlos Martínez as the new artistic director.

José Carlos Martínez's project is based on the promotion and dissemination of the art of dance and its extensive repertoire, reserving ample space for new Spanish creation, without forgetting the great choreographers of today. The aim is to encourage the approach of new audiences to dance and promote the national and international projection of the National Dance Company, to give it a new identity, including in the repertoire pieces of other styles such as classical and neoclassical, always without neglecting contemporary and avant-garde dance.

Along with these two performances, the Museum will be inaugurated with various activities such as visits to the exhibitions, seminars, workshops with artists and educational programs. The opening ceremony, which will take place on the 22nd, will be attended by local and national personalities from the artistic and cultural world, patrons, cultural agents, etc. The programming planned for 2015 focuses on three areas: exhibitions, performing arts, and public and educational programs.
