Groundbreaking of the Museo Universidad de Navarra
In early 2012, construction work began on the building and on January 26 we celebrated with a family event to pay tribute to Mª Josefa Huarte Beaumont, the person who made this Museum possible thanks to the donation of some fifty works of art that are now part of our collection.
The rector of the University, Ángel J. Gómez Montoro, emphasized in his speech the interdisciplinary nature of the Museum as it is able to relate to all the faculties of the University. The director of the Museum, Miguel López-Remiro, reminded us of the exquisiteness of the collection donated by Mª Josefa, which includes works by the main artists of the 20th century. Mr. Félix Goñi, for his part, reminded all those present of Mª Josefa's wish that her collection should reside in Navarra and expressed his desire to see the last stone being laid. From the Museum we gave Mr. Felix Goñi a drawing of the building painted by the architect and friend of the Huarte family, Rafael Moneo.
After the ceremony, we carried out the first artistic intervention in the Museum: the artists Fernando Pagola and Rafael Munárriz, together with a group of students and those attending the tribute, intervened on the Museum's fences to carry out the CMYK artistic project.
The ceremony took place on the same site of the Museum, where we were able to observe the progress of the construction. This First Stone was very emotional thanks to the presence of the Huarte family and people close to the Museum and the University.
