The Museo Universidad de Navarra exhibits again "North Africa. Ortiz Echagüe", a selection of photographs taken by the artist from La Mancha during his travels in Morocco.

The exhibition can be visited from June 5 to July 27, 2014 at the headquarters of the Calcografía Nacional, at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.

The Museo Universidad de Navarra opens the exhibition North Africa. Ortiz Echagüe at the headquarters of the Calcografía Nacional, in Madrid. The exhibition covers the trips that the photographer made to the area of Morocco between 1909 and 1915 on the occasion of his work as a military officer displaced to the area.

Two aspects of his work can be observed: on the one hand, the artist wanted to reflect - in an artistic aspect - the way of life of the people he met there (customs, typical costumes, their rural environment, etc.), always avoiding posing and actors, and seeking to reflect their environment as realistically as possible. On the other hand - thedocumentary side - Ortiz Echagüe did extensive work as head of the photographic service of the Air Station Unit. He took aerial images of African territories for purely military purposes, with the intention of making cartographic maps and locating enemy positions.

The exhibition invites us to reflect on the coexistence of these two aspects in Ortiz Echagüe's work: the intention of preserving in photographs the customs of a people, while at the same time working in the Spanish Army.

This exhibition has previously been shown at the Museo Nacional de Arte de Catalunya, where it received more than 39,000 visitors.
