The Museum's management team reorganizes in preparation for its upcoming opening
Its three management bodies have been strengthened and the Art Committee has been given a greater role
After four years of work in the gestation of the project, the management team of Museo Universidad de Navarra has been reorganized, with an eye on the opening and start of activities, as well as the inauguration, which will take place in January 2015.
To meet the needs of the new phase, the Museum has strengthened and increased coordination among its three main governing bodies (Board of Directors, Patronage of Promoters and Art Committee), which met for the first time on September 25. Along these lines, the Art Committee will play a more prominent role.
The Board of Directors, which is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Museum's activities, will now be made up of Jaime García del Barrio (general director), Javier Casanova (deputy director), Fernando de la Puente (administrator) and Elisa Montserrat (director of Communication and Development). Miguel López-Remiro, director of the Museum in this first stage, will continue at the University as advisor and curator of the Museum, and will also carry out research and teaching tasks.
López-Remiro emphasized "the satisfaction of directing the Museum. The project has been made known, a great team has been formed and the Museum's mission and artistic programming has been designed. We have also presented it throughout Spain and in a good number of countries. Thanks to this diffusion, it is now known to important curators, collectors and art institutions around the world." Likewise, referring to the future, he showed his illusion in this new stage, in which he will develop "new projects for the Museum" and will resume research.
For his part, the Rector thanked "his passion for the project and his dedication, first as a consultant, since 2008, and then as director, since 2010. Miguel has been an important part of a team that has worked with enthusiasm in shaping the initial idea, communicating it in many cities around the world, attracting the help of numerous people".
The new Board of Directors will be completed with a member of the Art Committee, depending on the strategic interests of each stage. This body manages the day-to-day running of the Museum, works on teaching, research and dissemination, establishes institutional relations and ensures the presence of the arts in the university community.
Board of Trustees and Art CommitteeThe Board of Trustees, made up of individuals and corporations that make donations to finance the construction of the building, will continue to be chaired by Ángel J. Gómez- Montoro. Among its functions, in addition to maintaining its gratitude to donors, it ensures that the Museum's research and teaching mission is fulfilled, advises on the artistic program, fosters relations with other museums, collaborates in the search for sponsorships and new aid for the construction, and promotes the internationalization of the project.
In addition to the Patronato de Promotores, there is the Patronato de la colección de María Josefa Huarte, which ensures that the donor's wishes are fulfilled.
The Art Committee designs the artistic strategy and programming, establishes relationships with artists and follows up on their projects, and evaluates possible donations and additions to the collection. It is composed of Rafael Llano, Valentín Vallhonrat, Rafael Levenfeld, José Manuel Garrido and Fernando Pagola.
The opening of an art center with more than 11,000 square meters will bring with it an intense museum activity: exhibitions of its own and other collections, support for artists, collaboration with other museums; programming of performing arts, theater, music and dance; teaching tasks, such as the recent Diploma created in the Faculty of Philosophy; research and publications; didactic programs through agreements with schools and institutes; cultural outreach. A wide range of activities will be offered to the university community, to all the citizens of Pamplona and other places that decide to come to Navarre.
