The artist Elena Asins, winner of the 2011 National Visual Arts Prize, died on Tuesday 15 December at her home in Azpíroz (Navarra) at the age of 75. The forerunner of conceptual art in Spain was developing an artistic project for the Museum, where she was going to show "Menires"The exhibition was to open in the spring of 2016, and will be accompanied by other newly created works.

The exhibition project planned to show "Menires"on floor -1 of the Museum. Alongside this piece, two other works by Asins: in Room 0, a large-scale steel reproduction of the model of "The democratic city"a piece that represents a city with interconnected spaces without hierarchies. The exhibition will be completed in the Museum's Tower Hall with a video installation of around ten audiovisual pieces on Antigone.

"Menirs" is a sculptural work made up of 40 menhirs of lacquered wood, measuring 24x24x24, dating from 1995. Each size has the same cut on one of its faces. This cut obeys an imaginary grid in which there is a vacuum extraction that covers four parts of one surface and half of the upper surface.

Elena Asins supported and was close to the Museum from its beginnings, when it was still a project. When the building was inaugurated in January 2015, she regularly attended the activities programmed by the art centre, especially the exhibitions and film cycles. The last performance he attended was on 15 October at the world premiere of "Always/Still. An opera without voices"a musical and audiovisual creation by Alfredo Aracil and Alberto Corazón.

Elena Asins, a great artist and person who has contributed a great deal to the artistic field in Navarre in recent years, may she rest in peace.
