Jesús Carmona and Lucía Campillo join the University of Navarra Symphony Orchestra and the University of Navarra Choir in this project, which is unique in terms of its fusion of disciplines and cultures.

Algarabía is an innovative encounter between flamenco and Arabic poetic traditions. Poetry, music, Spanish and Arabic dance, and flamenco rhythms come together in a vibrant celebration of movement and storytelling that also pays tribute to the music of Manuel de Falla.

The show tells the story of a young Arab botanist (Cynthya Karam) who embarks on a journey of discovery to Spain, studying the ancient botanical theory of flowers. Her intellectual approach contrasts with the instinctive love that a Spanish florist (Jesús Carmona) has for flowers, their aromas, and colors... Other figures appear on stage, such as the dancer Lucía Campillo, who plays the role of a Spanish botanist.

UNIVERSITY OF NAVARRA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The Orquesta Sinfónica Universidad de Navarra is formed by students of university age. Each year it offers students from the University and other centers the possibility of training and belonging to a quality symphonic ensemble. Conducted by Borja Quintas, its activity is developed throughout the course by top professionals of the music scene and culminates with public performances.

Inspired by the orchestras of the most prestigious universities in the United States and Central Europe, it aims to revalue the role of the arts and music in the university environment and to become a young orchestra of reference. On the horizon it also wants to promote links and exchanges with other national and international university institutions through music.

JESÚS CARMONA

Born in Badalona in 1985, he began his flamenco training at the age of 7. He graduated in Spanish Dance and Flamenco from the Institute of Theater and Dance in 2003 and furthered his artistic training with the most important performers and creators of the time. He has been a member of companies such as El Güito, Nuevo Ballet Español, and Antonio Canales, among others. In 2006, he joined the cast of the Spanish National Ballet, where he rose to the rank of principal dancer and participated as a guest artist in subsequent years.

His restlessness as a creator and performer drives him to leave his position within the BNE to create his own proposals, thus giving rise to the Jesús Carmona Dance Company, in addition to collaborating as a creator for projects of other artists and companies.

Among other awards, he has won the Benois de la Danse Prize 2021, the National Dance Prize 2020, the Ojo Crítico RTVE Prize 2019, and two MAX Awards for 'Baile de Bestias' (Dance of Beasts), for best show and best performer in 2022.
