The exhibition invites visitors to discover with a new look the pieces that make up the Museo Universidad de Navarra Collection, among which the legacy of the Navarre collector María Josefa Huarte stands out. The proposal is divided into four different areas, dedicated to figuration, the wall as a space for creation, informalist abstraction and geometric abstraction.

After a first presentation of the collection in 2015, following criteria of ordering by authors, the distribution of this new exhibition allows us to explore figuration, the wall as a space for creation, informalist abstraction and geometric abstraction through the works in the collection. The exhibition brings together works by artists such as Jorge Oteiza, Pablo Palazuelo, Antoni Tàpies, Pablo Picasso and Mark Rothko, among others. It also exhibits for the first time works from the collection that have not been shown before. For example, pieces by Manuel Gómez Raba, Elena Asins, Tsuguharu Foujita and Jaime Burguillos. This new arrangement in rooms, which is structured around the legacy of María Josefa Huarte, allows for dialogue and interrelation between the different works and authors that make up the Collection Museo Universidad de Navarra. The incorporation of new pieces, which complete, contextualize and help to understand the works previously exhibited, transcends the character of private collection that had the original donation and presented in a museum-like manner. |
To the 47 initial pieces by 18 different artists brought together by María Josefa Huarte, new works have been added, mainly focused on abstraction, which tell us about Spanish contemporary art from the 1950s to the present day, allowing us to trace a journey through the construction and perception of the image during this period through the works on display.

The collection of María Josefa Huarte
In 2008 María Josefa Huarte donated her collection to the University of Navarra, leading to the creation of Museo Universidad de Navarra, whose construction was carried out by Rafael Moneo.
This volume gathers the legacy and its particularities.
